Photochromism is defined as the reversible interconversion of two substances between stable states on exposure to electromagnetic radiation. In our projects, we strive to design and synthesise new molecules that change their absorption profiles in response to visible light. Our ultimate goal is to understand and consequently engineer the molecular electronics of our systems to incorporate both photochromic and electrochromic properties into a single molecule for commercially relevant technologies.
